RECORD SET AT CANADIAN ART AUCTION

Last night’s Toronto auction of high end Canadian art was the highest grossing fine art auction in Canadian history.

Mountain and GlacierA canvas by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris “Mountain and Glacier”, outperformed its estimate of $1.5 million selling for $4.6 million.  It was one of three Harris pieces that sold for a combined total of $9.5 million.

stormTom Thomson’s “After the Storm”, believed to be his last work, sold for almost $1.3 million.

harbourAlex Colville’s “Harbour” sold for $1.9 million, more than twice its estimated price.

The auction at Heffel Fine Art Auction House saw sales of almost $23.5 million, far surpassing presale estimates of up to $15 million.
